| Générales | Probablement originaire d’Amérique tropicale et subtropicale, l’espèce a été introduite comme fourrage dans de nombreux régions tropicales et subtropiclaes où elle s’est naturalisée, avec une distribution actuelle pantropicale-subtropicale. |
| Réunion | Introduit tardivement à La Réunion, sans doute au début du XXe siècle (BOSSER & RENVOIZE 2018). Fréquent dans les milieux herbacés rudéraux du domaine hygrophile de basse altitude. |
